Sightseeing, swimming, hiking, sailing, skiing – Sister Bay offers visitors the opportunity to fill vacation days with activity. Or, if you prefer, little activity at all. Unplug and quietly enjoy the sunshine, or play until you’re tuckered out. The choice is yours.
While visitors tell us they come to Sister Bay to relax, each person defines that term a little differently. For some, relaxation means setting off on a kayaking adventure to explore the bluffs and shipwrecks. For others, relaxation is sitting beside the soothing waves of Lake Michigan and Green Bay while enjoying the view and reading a good book.
Green Bay laps at the shorelines of the Village, offering world-class freshwater sailing, fishing, kayaking and swimming. Catch a scenic boat ride or share a romantic sunset cruise. Golfing, bicycling or hiking more your idea of relaxation? You’ll find a driving range and challenging golf course just south of downtown. Bring or rent a bicycle, and ride the miles of open country roads. Hike through the cedars along the shore of Lake Michigan at nearby Newport State Park. For an adrenaline pumping thrill, hook onto a zip line and sail through the trees! Or ride a Segway for a new perspective on country roads and trails. Lake Michigan often conjures summer storms, so when bad weather hits, visit one of Sister Bay’s landmarks and bowl a few games. Or check out the local history at the Corner of the Past and Old Anderson House Museum.
When the snow flies and blankets the village in white, set out to explore the pristine natural landscape while snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling. Skate, play hockey or broomball at Northern Door County’s only outdoor ice rink.
Die hard fishermen will enjoy the easy access to the water for ice fishing after the bay freezes. And if you’re lucky, and the ice and wind are just right, you might catch a glimpse of ghostly sail boats as they “Ice Sail” on the frozen bay.
